Istanbul-Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque or Sultan Ahmet Mosque is named after the thousands of blue tiles that decorate it’s interior, giving it a colorful inner appearance. I visited Istanbul during the holy month of Ramazan and because of this there was an increased amount of people praying in the mosques, including the Blue Mosque. As an outsider, I was lucky enough to witness this religious service for the first time in my life and maybe due to my mostly Christian religious exposure, I found the service to be hauntingly beautiful. As I quietly sat down in the back of the mosque, the words of the imam rang out into the silent interior and the men beneath him listened to his every word, deep in their own world of self-reflection and prayer.
