Istanbul-Basilica Cistern

Located deep underground, the Basilica Cistern was one of my personal favorites and a welcome change from the heat and crowded streets of Istanbul. This cistern was built as a water filtration system by Emperor Constantine and provided water for the Great Palace of Constantinople. Walking along the darken pathways, I could see the ghostly outline of carp swimming in the illuminated water and I felt like I had entered another world altogether.
